The Worlds Best Beaches

Home > The Best Beaches in the World

When I first sat down and thought about putting together a section on the best beaches in the world, it became immediately obvious that what makes a beach great is very subjective. It not only depends on the person as everyone has their own idea of what makes the best beach in the world, but it also depends on what you want to get from the beach.

For example my own idea of the worlds best beaches changes depending on whether I want a beach just to lie on, or go snorkeling. Or am I going on holiday with my whole family? What is the best family beach, or what are the best beach resorts and where do you go for the best beach vacations? Another example may be that the most beautiful beach may not necessarily be in a warm country and so whilst it may be fantastic to walk along, it would not be suitable as a "suntan beach".

I don't think anyone can say that this is the world's best beach or these are the best beaches in the world, instead I have decided see what other people recommend as well as divide the best beaches up into categories, some beaches will feature in many of them and so I guess you may argue that that beach is better than a beach that only features in one category... what ever the case I hope that this helps you to find "your" best beach and hopefully your best beach holiday ever.

The Top Ten Beaches in the World

Las Islas Cies, Galicia, SpainWay back in 2007, the UK's Guardian put together, what they think are the 10 best beaches in the world.

Travel sections in newspapers are always trying to sell you a holiday to locations that they have advertisers for. This makes sense as newspapers rely heavily on advertising, so it is always wise to take their recommendations with a pinch of salt.

Having said that they have chosen some stunning beach holiday locations, with Las Islas Cies beach in Galicia, Spain coming out on top.

Maltese Flag Best Beaches in Malta

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay MaltaMalta, has some great beaches, some are right in the touristy areas, whilst others are fairly remote and perfect for those looking to get away from it all.

Because Malta is very much a rocky island, many of it's best beaches, especially those enjoyed by locals are also rocky. These are great for snorkeling, looking for little critters, diving from and even lying on, not so great if you have really young children who want to play in the sand.

There are of course also many sandy beaches, you just need to know where to look, so for more information and where to find them, check out the beach holiday guide to Malta's Best Beaches.

Gambian Flag Best Beaches in the Gambia

Kotu Beach in the GambiaThe Gambia continues to become more and more popular as a beach holiday destination. The combination of cheap hotels and cheap flights as well as the weather have all contributed to this. On top of this the Gambia does have some great beaches.

I think what people like about the beaches in Gambia is that they are far less developed than in many other beach holiday locations, no high rise buildings an no apartment blocks, just miles and miles of sand.
